At Camp Ak-O-Mak, we pride ourselves on our diverse group of campers and staff from around the world. Many of our Campers are not from Canada, which gives campers the opportunity to make friends from a variety of different countries and states. We find having campers from all across the globe facilitates an environment for collaboration, inclusivity, and making lasting friendships. Language barriers don’t exist at Ontario’s Camp Ak-O-Mak, as our staff speak Spanish, English, French and a few others!
Our number one goal is to ensure the entire Canadian camp experience is incredible for your camper, which includes the arrival. To assist you with the booking process, here are some things you should know before you book your daughter’s flight:
This is where you come in. Parents and guardians must book their child’s flight to Pearson International Airport (YYZ), and their arrival must be on the session’s start date between the times of 11am and 2pm.
*We do make exceptions for campers who cannot make a flight between 11am and 2pm on the start date of camp, however, you must check with Camp Ak-O-Mak in advance!
We have representatives.
Camp Ak-O-Mak will send a representative to pick your child up from Pearson International Airport (YYZ) when they exit the baggage claim area. From here, our representative will take her to the waiting spot at a hotel across from the airport. Here, she will wait with the rest of the international campers and other campers who have arrived. The girls are supervised at all times throughout the wait. While waiting, the staff have organized icebreaker games to ensure everyone is introduced and feels comfortable.
If your child is flying as an unaccompanied minor, please be sure to give us the Booking Reference Code on the Travel Information form. Our camp representative will meet your daughter at baggage claim with the Airline personal to sign for your daughter.
Your daughter will join the other campers at the hotel. For the return trip, the campers are bused back to Toronto International Airport (YYZ), and we will assist your daughter with the check-in process and hand her over to the Airline personnel.
You can find unaccompanied minor age guidelines with the airline directly.
We bus to camp altogether.
Once all of the campers arrive, the bus will take staff and campers three and a half hours north to Camp Ak-O-Mak in time for dinner. The campers will proceed to have the best summer ever.
Everyone dreads the end of camp after an amazing summer, but when the time comes, it’s important to know what comes next. On the last day of camp, international campers will take the camp bus back to Pearson International. Representatives will help each international camper check in their luggage, and assist with all the airport processes for their flight back home. Staff members stay with them until the moment they board their flight. Make sure your camper has their booking reference, and we’ll take care of the rest!
Prepare for your camper to arrive home with confidence, new skills, and memories of friendship and adventure. And lest we forget about the solidarity of sisterhood. You can assure peace of mind at all times knowing that Camp Ak-O-Mak is an OCA (Ontario Camp Association) accredited camp. We have a medical doctor on staff at all times to ensure all health and safety needs are met. Our campers well-being is always our top priority, right above fun and all our camp activities.
